What's going on Wednesday?

Heilung
Heilung

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Heilung @ Webster Hall
Metal-friendly Nordic dark folk band Heilung — think Wardruna or Dead Can Dance — released their sophomore album Furtha in 2019 on Season of Mist, and now the band — whose members are spread across Norway, Denmark, and Germany — are on their first-ever North American tour. This is their second of two sold-out Webster Hall shows.

Bob Mould, Will Johnson @ Iridium (2 shows)
Bob Mould’s songs sound just as good solo electric as they do when he’s playing with a band, and they’re almost just as loud. Tonight’s shows are will onetime Centro-Matic frontman Will Johnson.

Peel Dream Magazine, Patti, Very Nice Massage @ Baby’s All Right
Named in part after legendary BBC DJ John Peel, Brooklyn’s Peel Dream Magazine embody that indie spirit, making a droney, dreamy sound that hits the middle of the My Bloody Valentine/Stereolab/Broadcast venn diagram. Tonight’s their winter tour kickoff.

The Austerity Program, Statiqbloom, Fliege, Member @ Saint Vitus
NYC post-hardcore/noise rock staples The Austerity Program released their new album Bible Songs 1 last year, and tonight they play a hometown show with industrial duo StatiqBloom and more.

Frances Quinlan art gallery and Q&A @ Selina Chelsea
Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan releases her debut solo album this Friday (and it’s streaming on NPR now), and she’s celebrating with this free gallery event showcasing her artwork, which also includes a Q&A session and a listening session for the album. 7 PM start.

Madison Cunningham, Courtney Hartman @ (le) poisson rouge
Just ahead of joining Calexico & Iron and Wine on tour, Grammy nominee Madison Cunningham plays her second of two sold-out shows at LPR tonight.

Daniel Higgs, Ezekiel Healy @ Union Pool
Former Lungfish frontman Daniel Higgs these days makes folk music, not punk, but his powerful voice is no less compelling. Tonight’s show is with The Boggs’ Ezekiel Healy.

At What Cost @ Union Hall
Chicago comedians Holmes Holmes and Caleb Hearon host this traveling stand-up showcase that features a pretty impressive lineup tonight: John Early, Meg Stalter, Rebecca O’Neal, Sir Babygirl, Shelby Wolstein, Holmes Holmes, and Caleb Hearon

Bon Appétit Presents TURN ON THE OVEN: A Depths-of-Winter Live Podcast Event @ The Bell House
Fans of Bon Appetit‘s YouTube channel will want to attend this podcast taping featuring most of their test kitchen staff, including Carla Lalli Music, Chris Morocco, Andy Baraghani, Molly Baz, and Sohla El-Waylly, plus editors Adam Rapoport, Priya Krishna, and Alex Beggs.

Vijay Iyer Solo @ Jazz Standard
Contemporary jazz great begins a run of shows at Jazz Standard tonight, with two shows a night through February 1, and tonight’s shows find him performing rare entirely solo sets.

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
