What's going on Wednesday?

Erykah Badu
Erykah Badu at Kings Theatre in 2015 (more by PSquared)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk
Neo-soul great Erykah Badu continues to be at the top of her game. She capped last year off with the great But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape, and she just recently put out a song with Nas for The Land soundtrack. Tonight she plays this new-ish Coney Island venue.

DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown aka Erykah Badu, Natasha Diggs, Rashad Smith @ Output
After the Coney Island show, Erykah Badu DJs Output in Williamsburg under her DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown guise.

Shopping, Gauche, Cende, Clouty & The Imagine Nation @ Baby’s All Right
While the scratchy post-punk style UK trio Shopping favor has been done many times before (from The Slits on) there is no question they do it very very well and are terrific live.

‘Positively Bob Dylan Vol 2’ w/ Nellie McKay, Anais Mitchell, Steve Forbert, Susan Werner, Ari Hest & Chrissi Poland, and more @ City Winery
Bob’s 75th birthday was actually back in May but City Winery is celebrating tonight with this tribute show featuring a lot of talented folks.

Honduras, ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ screening @ McCarren Park (SummerScreen)
Wear your best Adidas tracksuit (or don’t) and head to McCarren Park for a screening of Wes Anderson’s family dramedy The Royal Tennenbaums, with a live set from Brooklyn’s Honduras beforehand.

Boogarins, Crazy and The Brains, Minibeast @ Monty Hall
Brazil’s Boogarins are indebted to their countries psychedelic musical traditions but forge their own path. They’re especially good live.

‘Soundtrack 7’ with FKA Twigs @ BAM
This is the world premiere of FKA Twigs’ concert film that was shot at her shows at the 2015 Manchester International Festival. Twigs describes it as “flesh, sweat, feeling, muscle, and a live movement, no air brushing, no frills.”

Elvis Depressedly, Teen Suicide, Nicole Dollanganger @ Market Hotel
Teen Suicide make a lot of different sounds on their new (very long) album, but live they’re a straight-ahead punk band and that works to their advantage. Tonight’s sold-out show is with their old pals Elvis Depressedly and Grimes associate Nicole Dollanganger.

BELLS≥, The Effects, Friendship Commanders, Billy Bouchard @ Saint Vitus
BELLS≥, the post-Jawbox project of drummer Zach Barocas, haven’t been super active lately, but tonight they’ll grace their hometown with their first show here in a while. They last released Solutions, Silence, or Affirmations in 2014.

Tony Joe White @ Joe’s Pub
Southern rocker Tony Joe White has been at it since the late ’60s, and he’s toured with bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival, whose fans would probably dig White’s stuff. This year, he released Rain Crow on Yep Roc.

The Lumineers, Langhorne Slim & The Law, Rayland Baxter @ Prospect Park
We’re not necessarily suggesting you check out the ho-hey-ing Lumineers, but if you do find yourself at this show, both are openers are worth catching.
