La Femme

What's going on Wednesday?

La Femme
La Femme

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Amanda Shires, Lilly Hiatt @ Mercury Lounge
Alt-country singer/violinist/guitarist Amanda Shires recently returned with My Piece of Land, which was produced by Dave Cobb and should appeal to fans of some other artists he’s worked with (like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, and Amanda’s husband/collaborator Jason Isbell).

Lucy Dacus, Bellows @ Mercury Lounge
Mercury Lounge is a great place to be tonight. After the Amanda Shires show, Matador-signed indie rock breakout Lucy Dacus plays a later show.

La Femme @ Warsaw
While their new album Mystere finds Parisian band La Femme in a more mellow mood, their live show will probably still be le bananas. Sold out.

Omara Portuondo, Roberto Fonseca, Anat Cohen, Regina Carter @ BAM
Buena Vista Social Club’s Omara Portuondo celebrates her 85th birthday tongiht performing Cuban classics from throughout her 70-year career.

Shovels and Rope, Matthew Logan Vasquez @ Bowery Ballroom
All the way from Johns Island, SC, indie country couple Carrie Ann Heart and Michael Trent stomp and holler as Shovels and Rope, who play tonight with Delta Spirit’s Matthew Logan Vasquez.

Steely Dan @ Beacon Theatre
Steely Dan are in the midst of their ten-show run at Beacon Theatre tonight and tonight’s setlist is “By Popular Demand.”

Eugene Chadbourne, Sunwatchers, Ryan Sawyer @ WFMU Monty Hall
Avant garde guitarist Euguene Chadbourne has played with everyone from The Residents to Camper Van Beethoven, and tonight has a bunch of similarly-minded musicians with him.

Sadie Dupuis (Speedy Ortiz), Haley Houseman, Merritt K, Kim Kelly @ Littlefield
This event is “Drunk TED Talks” which is “the world’s premiere source of highly intelligent people talking about weird stuff they care deeply about while extremely drunk (with PowerPoints).” Tonight’s theme is “Witches.”

Squeeze, The English Beat @ The Capitol Theatre
One of the all-time great pop songwriting teams, Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook bring a full-band version of Squeeze to Port Chester with help from fellow early-’80s faves The English Beat.

Eric Bachmann (Crooked Fingers) @ “Living Room Show”
Archers of Loaf and Crooked Fingers singer Eric Bachmann released his first-ever (and very good) solo album earlier this year on Merge and is currently on a living room tour, playing very intimate shows. This one is sold out.

Rae Sremmurd, Lil Yachty @ Playstation Theater
Rae Sremmurd returned earlier this year with Sremmlife 2, and it doesn’t seem like they’ve run out of party-ready hooks at all. Lil Yachty, who has arguably the best verse on Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book and plenty of buzz for his own material, opens the show.

Alicia Keys, A$AP Rocky, Chance the Rapper, Patti Smith, Salt-N-Pepa @ Hammerstein Ballroom (Keep A Child Alive benefit)
Speaking of Chance the Rapper, he’s also in NYC tonight and, along with A$AP Rocky, is holding down the rap end of the spectrum at Keep A Child Alive’s 13th annual Black Ball benefit. The show also has punk legend Patti Smith and more, and tickets start at $300.

Oozing Wound, Electric Hawk, PC Worship, Shimmer @ Shea Stadium
Chicago thrash outfit Oozing Wound just released their third album, the manic riff machine Whatever Forever. These guys bring the absolute fury during their live show, so metalheads shouldn’t miss out on this.

Fraternal Twin, Half Waif, Romantic States, Rhea @ Silent Barn
Fraternal Twin play a record release show at Silent Barn tonight, and if you’re going it’s also worth showing up in time for art pop band Half Waif (who share members with Pinegrove).

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
