You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Underworld, JDH & Dave P @ Terminal 5
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been making electronic music as Underworld for almost 30 years and have managed to keep things fresh on new albums, including this year's terrific Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future. For those who just want to shout, "Lager Lager Lager," you'll likely get to do that too.
Beach Slang, Potty Mouth, Dyke Drama, Constant Companion @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Beach Slang's music is serious but it's fun, their shows are tight but endearingly sloppy. They'll probably do some impromptu covers (and some planned ones), and they'll also probably play almost every song they've released, which are some of the most cathartic rock songs to come out in recent years.
James Alex (of Beach Slang) @ Samsung 837
Before Beach Slang's show tonight, singer James Alex does an acoustic solo set at 7 PM.
Prince Rama, Pictureplane @ Rough Trade
If you're looking for a show that fits the 4/20 spirit, Prince Rama's day-glo nu-age aerobics should do nicely. Their new album Xtreme Now is a lot of fun, as is their live show.
Ryley Walker & Charles Rumback, Jaye Bartell @ Union Pool
Another good 4/20 option is the blissed-out psych folk of Ryley Walker, who just released a collaborative EP with drummer Charles Rumback for Record Store Day and they play together at this show. It's also a release show for Jaye Bartell's very good new album Light Enough.
Tokyo Police Club, From Indian Lakes, Charly Bliss @ Irving Plaza
Canadian indie stalwarts Tokyo Police Club keep on keeping on, having just released a new EP, titled in '90s punny style Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness: Part One.
Waka Flocka, 4B, Oxymorrons @ Webster Hall
It's becoming a tradition for Waka Flocka to play Webster Hall on 4/20, which is surely a great day to see him. This show is sold out.
Cam'ron, Da$h, Kirk Knight @ BB King's
Some competition for Waka Flocka tonight though… The Smokers Club presents this show which should also be, uh, lit.
Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), Warren Franklin & The Founding Fathers, For Everest, Long Beard @ Shea Stadium
Emo revivalists Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) are breaking up, but not after a final tour which hits NYC tonight. Some good openers on this too.
Antibalas, John Medeski, Nikhil P. Yerawadekar & Low Mentality, DJ Bugaloo @ Brooklyn Bowl
Antibalas' monthly Brooklyn Bowl residency continues, tonight with special guests John Medeski (of Medeski Martin & Wood) and more.
Kool A.D., Gloss Gang, Cult Days, Slauson Malone & Medhane @ Bushwick Public House
Das Racist is no more but the members continue on as solo artists. Former member Kool AD headlines this multi-genre bill.
Ry X @ National Sawdust
The Acid member Ry X is releasing solo debut, Dawn, on May 6 via Loma Vista, full of atmospheric, deep-feels pop. This is the (slightly early) release show.
Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die feat. Honeyfingers, Eli Paperboy Reed, Ahmed Gallab, Amanda Khiri, Zephaniah Ohora, Kelli Scarr, Alana Amram, Sean Walsh @ Manhattan Inn
Another holiday-appropriate show goes down at Manhattan Inn with this Willie Nelson tribute.
Baked, The Due Diligence, Hound, Uncivilized @ Aviv
Maybe not as outwardly 4/20-related as some other stuff tonight, but perfect night to see BAKED amirite?
Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which was recently extended through May.
