What’s going on Wednesday (Halloween)?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
The Village Halloween Parade
One of the great NYC traditions, this is the 45th annual Village Halloween Parade. This year's theme is “I AM a Robot!” and the parade goes from 7-10:30 PM, though you'll want to get there earlier than that to secure a good spot...or you can just stay home and watch it on NY1.
GWAR, Miss May I, American Sharks @ Irving Plaza
As we wrote in our NYC Halloween guide: If you’re looking for a concert to see on Halloween, what better band than a band who wears costumes and sprays the audience with blood on any night of the year? Irving Plaza hosts ‘GWARoween PT II “The Bloodening’” on Halloween night, and while we can’t know for sure which one will be the best, it feels safe to assume that this one will at least have the most amount of beheadings.
New York Night Train‘s Haunted Hop Halloween Spook w/ Roky Erickson, Hank Wood, Death Valley Girls and more @ Knockdown Center
Jonathan Toubin is once again taking over Queens’ massive Knockdown Center for a Haunted Hop featuring live sets from Roky Erickson, Hank Wood & The Hammerheads, Death Valley Girls and White Mystery. There’s also the “Monster Mash Room Full of Mirrors” with “12 of your favorite bands” pretending to be other bands, plus Howie Pyro’s Blood Diner and Discotheque, Gare B Scopi’s Horror Cinema, Screaming Horses Brujas Coven, Jonathan Toubin himself spinning spooky 45s with mummy go-go dancers, a costume contest, and “much more.”
Elsewhere 1-year Anniversary w/ Beach Fossils, Wavves and more
Popgun’s three-stage venue Elsewhere opened Halloween night 2017 and they’re celebrating the one-year anniversary tonight with this spooktacular featuring Beach Fossils, Wavves, plus Kevin Krauter, Wooing, Native Sun, DJs and more. And if you’re hungry, the Mission Chinese located on the ground floor is now open (and serve "water pickles").
Cypress Hill, special guests @ Gramercy Theatre
Cypress Hill's 'Haunted Hill' shows are a Halloween tradition, and this year the veteran hip hop group have two of them in NYC. There's one tonight (Halloween proper) with special guests promised, and one on Friday with NYHC legends Madball.
Christian Death, Pawns, Sadist, Devil Master, Blu Anxxiety @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Valor Kand has lead death rockers and American goth icons Christian Death since 1985 and has continued to shock and horrify (and delight) fans.
Azar Swan, DJs Star Eyes & Andi Harriman @ Saint Vitus (Late)
This is the official aftershow for Christian Death and is part of the Wednesday "Nothing Changes" party and features the dark synthpop of Azar Swan. 11 PM doors, free.
Drab Majesty, Xeno & Oaklander, Void Vision @ Villain
Need more darkwave options? This show is loaded with gothy minimal wave electropop and probably lots of smoke machines and strobes
Murphy's Law, Urban Waste, Drunken Rampage, Ache @ The Kingsland
NYHC legends Murphy’s Law have had to cancel several shows due to frontman Jimmy Gestapo undergoing surgery, but Jimmy has finally covered and tonight he plays his first show back. Fellow NYHC vets Urban Waste provide direct support.
Christine and The Queens, Dounia @ Brooklyn Steel
Christine and the Queens returned this year with her sophomore album Chris, which sees her continuing to toy with the boundaries of pop music and gender. She brings her lively live show to Brooklyn Steel tonight and tomorrow.
World/Inferno Friendship Society Hallowmas @ Warsaw
Speaking of annual traditions, it’s World/Inferno Friendship Society’s holiday spectacular, Hallowmas, which is famous for its elaborate planning, stage show and surprises. What do they have store this year?
Phiddle (Phil Lesh + Twiddle), Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band, GEM featuring Grahame Lesh, Elliott Peck and Mihali Savoulidis @ The Capitol Theatre
The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh begins his three-night Phil-O-Ween run at the Cap tonight, and this Halloween night show includes him collaborating with Twiddle for a set as Phiddle (and much more).
Deafheaven, DIIV, Ionna Gika @ White Eagle Hall
Deafheaven returned this year with the new album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, which sees them working clean vocals into their black metal/post-rock blend without abandoning their trademark sound. They're now on tour with the shoegazy DIIV, and this show has additional support from Ionna Gika (of IO Echo), making for a triple bill of musical darkness.
Titus Andronicus, Spider Bags @ WFMU Monty Hall
Titus Andronicus released a ballad-heavy album this year and spent a lot of the year playing acoustic shows, but now they're back out on a full-band tour playing some new songs but also tons of punk ragers from earlier in their career. The tour hits several NY/NJ venues this week.
The Crystal Method, Kellam Matthews @ Good Room
You can also spend your Halloween dancing to the late-'90s electronica sounds of The Crystal Method.
Guerilla Toss, George Clanton, What Cheer? Brigade, The Juan Maclean (DJ Set), Stud1nt (DJ set) @ Market Hotel
It's the DFA Halloween Part, headlined by the underated Guerilla Toss, plus George Clanton, Juan Maclean on the decks and more.
Inferno @ McKittrick Hotel
The folks behind Sleep No More are hosting this decadent (and pricey) Halloween party, featuring elaborate, immersive sets and rooms, open bar, theatrical performances and bands like Future Punx and more.
Springsteen on Broadway
The scariest part of this show is what scalpers are charging for tickets!
Need more spooky fun? Watch KISS (who're going on their final tour) play the 1976 Paul Lynde Halloween Special, below.
Or if you don't want to see a show tonight but you're looking to indulge in another Halloween tradition, like maybe seeing The Rocky Horror Picture Show, check out which NYC theaters are screening it tonight.
