White Lung at 4Knots 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
White Lung

Vancouver's White Lung had, in my opinion, the best straight-up punk record of 2012 with Sorry, and they've put on some of the best live shows I've seen in the past year. So needless to say, the fact that they're working on their next full length is incredible news. That album hasn't been announced yet, but they're preceding it with a new 7" that will be out on Deranged Records on November 5.

Like many of the best tracks on Sorry, the 7"s A-side, "Blow It South," starts with power chords turned up to 11, leading into an unstoppable attack of lightning-fast drumming and mind-melting guitar shreds. What's different here though, is singer Mish Way's voice. On Sorry, she balanced piercing shouts with a few moments of psychedelic, hushed singing, but here she's pushed her voice to the front, sound bigger and more melodic than ever, and even working in some adept harmonies in the chorus. Mish isn't shy about her love for Courtney Love, and with that comparison in mind, if Sorry (and its predecessor It's the Evil for that matter) was White Lung's Pretty On the Inside, "Blow It South" is hinting at their Live Through This. Check out the song below.

At the end of this month, White Lung play Gainesville's The Fest, and right after that they'll head out on a west/southwest tour with Antwon. No NYC shows scheduled at the moment, but all of their dates are listed, along with the new song stream, below...
