Whitney released debut LP, played Other Music, have 3 more NYC shows this weekend

Whitney‘s album Light Upon The Lake was released today via Secretly Canadian. It’s one of our Five Notable Releases this week and, if you can, you should see Whitney live. The band, which features the combined songwriting efforts of Julien Ehrlich (ex-Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and Max Kakacek (ex-Smith Westerns), are in NYC as we speak for four shows, the first of which was last night — a free in-store performance at Other Music.

The band played Light Upon the Lake in Full and covered Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” (from Nashville Skyline). In between songs, Kakacek and Ehrlich were cracking jokes to the packed room, and thanking the soon-to-close store for letting them play. After the show, the band and everyone there posed for a group photo which you can see below.

Tonight (6/3), Whitney play a sold out show at Baby’s All Right followed by another sold out show Saturday (6/4) at Market Hotel. To close out the weekend, the band will play Governors Ball on Sunday (6/5). Updated Whitney tour dates are listed below.
