Why Bonnie tell us about their favorite movies, music and more of 2022
Austin-based band Why Bonnie released their debut album, 90 in November, back in August via Keeled Scales, a record that mixes Texas' outlaw country heritage with classic '90s alt rock for a hazy, ragged and often beautiful sound featuring Blair Howerton's melodic songwriting and smoky vocals. You can listen to that below.
Why Bonnie were nice enough to send us a list of their favorite stuff of the year, including music, movies, and television. Check out Blair, Sam Houdek, Kendall Powell, Chance Williams, and Josh Malett's picks and commentary below..
You can catch Why Bonnie on their West Coast tour in January. Those dates are listed below.
WHY BONNIE - FAVORITE MUSIC, MOVIES & MORE OF 2022
Blair:
You Are Every Girl To Me by MJ Lenderman
The whole album is alt rock gold but this song in particular really grabbed me. It’s the perfect example of how a good yet simple hook can make you feel so much.
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once
basically experienced ego death when I watched this movie. It’s smart, touching, funny, transportive, and completely insane.
Kendall:
The Rehearsal
This show was the most disturbing and moving piece of television I’ve seen in ages. By musing on empathy through pseudo-subjective inquiry (at times funny, shocking, or sad), Fielder managed to tap into something so deeply human - how does the way we experience the world impact our ability to relate to it?
Renaissance - Beyonce
What can I say? Release the wiggle !!
Sam:
Acre Memos- A Collection of Birdsongs
Recorded at Lazy Bones, this collection of songs is what’s magical about our time in Silsbee. It’s family and neighbors and being welcomed as both of those and pine trees and beers at the fire pit, and listening to it teleports me right back to one of the warmest times of my life.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (the film)-
Went to see this one kind of as a bit & left having cried & laughed more than I have at a movie in quite some time. It tackles grief, family, imposter syndrome, & such a lighthearted way. The world is literally burning down around us, but if we could all have the bravery & sense of humor that Marcel does, the world would be a better place!
Chance:
Sick! by Earl Sweatshirt
He’s rapping like he’s 16 again
Harry’s House by Harry Styles
This album had me googling 1D Tabloid stories from 2013
Josh:
Otherworld (podcast)
This series about the paranormal kept me up all night. The way Jack Wagner approaches all things paranormal with an open mind has changed how I look at the world and made me curious (frightened) of what could be out there waiting for me.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (movie)
This murder mystery was such a fun watch. I loved Knives Out and the sequel did not disappoint. Even when you think you’ve figured it out there are more layers to the mystery.
