Wilco throwing 'Schmilco' listening parties, selling ltd-ed turntables; Nels Cline residency at The Stone this week
Wilco‘s new album Schmilco will be out September 9 but you can listen to it early, not through some internet premiere stream, but at local record stores across the country. Special listening parties will happen September 6. The NYC listening party is at Rough Trade at 6 PM and there will be special giveaways too, including white label Schmilco vinyl, and turntable slipmats designed by Joan Cornellà (who did the Schmilco artwork). If you’d like to use that sure-to-be-cool slipmat but don’t have a turntable, there’s a limited edition Schmilco deck made by the high-end Pro-ject folks, it’s a bright green version of their Debut Carbon DC Turntable and comes with a copy of the LP and the slipmat. Meanwhile, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline has a residency at NYC club The Stone this week (August 23 – 28) with two sets each night at 8 PM and 10 PM. There are different collaborators each night, including Jim Campilongo and Jim Black tonight (8/23), Marc Ribot on Wednesday (8/24), Julian Lage on Thursday (8/25), Cibo Matto’s Yuka Honda on Friday (8/26), and more.
