Wild Beasts announce new LP 'Boy King,' share "Get My Bang" video

Wild Beasts are back with their fifth album, Boy King, which is out August 6 via Domino. Made in Dallas, TX with producer-of-the-moment John Congleton, the new album is a grittier, darker and funkier record that 2014’s Present Tense, with co-frontman Hayden Thorpe citing Nine Inch Nails and Justin Timberlake as influences. Theres’s also a bigger emphasis on synths. Says Thorpe:

It became apparent that that guitar almost became the character within the songs, that phallic character, the all-conquering male. I’m letting my inner Byron fully out, I thought I’d tucked him away, but he came screaming back like the Incredible Hulk. … I think Boy King is an apocalyptic record. It’s about swimming in the abyss. When you think about sex, you’ve got to think about death, they’re one and the same.

First single “Get My Bang” is a prime example of Wild Beasts’ new approach and you can check out the video, directed Olivier Groulx (Arcade Fire, alt-J, Scott Walker), which features some late night, back-alley choreography.

The band will be on tour later this year. No U.S. shows announced yet but all dates are listed below.
