Wild Pink share “Lake Erie” off new LP, playing shows (one with Lilith)
NYC's Wild Pink are following their solid 2017 self-titled debut album with their sophomore album, Yolk In The Fur, on July 20 via Tiny Engines (pre-order). It was once again recorded with Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr, Thurston Moore, Speedy Ortiz), but the band have drastically changed things up this time around. Compared to their indie rock-sounding debut, Yolk In The Fur's lead single "Lake Erie" shows Wild Pink going in a heartland rock direction that should please fans of The War On Drugs or the new Amen Dunes album. They've got twangy leads, '80s synths, a driving backbone, and more, and this new sound suits them very well. Listen below.
Wild Pink begin a Europe tour with Ratboys (another band who combine Americana and DIY indie rock) tonight (5/2), and after that, they have two hometown shows: June 2 at Trans-Pecos with Lilith, Fits and Pet Fox (tickets); and July 25 at Baby's All Right with Annie Hart and Fire Is Motion (tickets).
In related news, Wild Pink’s John Ross recently released a new solo song under the moniker Eerie Gaits. It's called "Anhonestain" and it's out now on a split with Dondadi. It's got both acoustic guitar arpeggios and Eno-inspired ambience, and you can hear that below too.
In one more bit of related news, Boston's Lilith, who play that Trans-Pecos show with Wild Pink, released a new song today called "I'll Come Over." If you dig crunchy, catchy '90s alternative rock, you'll probably dig this too. Listen below (via Stereogum). This is the first song released from a two-song single coming out June 1 via Disposable America, and the band is "currently working on their debut full-length, due out sometime later this year."
