William Tyler playing David Berman tribute w/ Malkmus & more, lists fave LPs of 2019
William Tyler, who played in the mid-’90s lineup of Silver Jews, hosted a tribute to the late David Berman in Nashville over Thanksgiving weekend, and he’ll be part of another one at Portland Bunk Bar on January 4 (which would’ve been Berman’s 53rd birthday). Presented by zine chickfactor, “Bike Chain Rain: A Birthday Tribute to David Cloud Berman” will feature original Silver Jews (and Pavement members) Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich, plus Rebecca Gates (The Spinanes), Clay Cole, Franklin Bruno, Oed Ronne, A Certain Smile and special guests TBA, as well as writers Kevin Sampsell, Chelsey Johnson, Jon Raymond, Mo Daviau, Kjerstin Johnson, Daniel Elder and Sophia Shalmiyev. That show is sold out and the same day as the sold-out DCBday tributes at Brooklyn’s Union Pool.
Having released new solo album Goes West at the start of 2019, William Tyler toured with the Kevin Morby Duo in addition to other dates. Tyler will be at Union Pool in February for three shows with Steve Gunn (tickets), which is ahead of their tour Mary Lattimore on their way to the 2019 Big Ears festival.
