Wye Oak release new LP 'Tween' (listen)
Wye Oak have just surprise-released their new album, which is titled Tween, and which you can listen to right now. It marks a bit of a return to to the widescreen, ethereal atmospherics the band were initially known for, and less in the more rhythmic direction of their last album, Shriek. That move is tipped in the album title which they say is “not emblematic of a step forward, but a step sideways in time” and revealing they were songs that were written around the same time as Shriek but didn’t fit with that LP’s direction. While Tween is out digitally now, the vinyl and CD will be out August 5 via Merge. They’ve also released a video for the first single “Watching the Waiting,” directed by Michael Patrick O’Leary and Ashley North Compton, which you can watch below.
You can soon catch Wye Oak on tour, and they’ll play NYC on June 21 at Warsaw with TEEN (who play two Northside shows this week). Tickets are still available.
