YBN The Mixtape

YBN crew release debut mixtape (listen)

Even by today’s standards, YBN Nahmir’s rise to rap stardom was extremely quick. When the 18-year-old Birmingham, Alabama native dropped his “Rubbin Off The Paint” video last September, all the viral elements were present: a Pi’erre Bourne type beat, a line that some falsely interpreted as a Tay-K diss, a Rick and Morty simile. But in the past months, Nahmir has proven himself to be more than a one-hit wonder and he’s also used his platform to introduce the public to his YBN crew.

By now, the origins of YBN are pretty well known. The clique began as a loose group of friends from around the country playing Grand Theft Auto online together and freestyling during those sessions. And while YBN Almighty Jay and, more recently, YBN Cordae have begun making names for themselves in their own right, I was surprised to learn while writing this post that there are actually ten whole members of the crew and maybe more. [The FADER]

The YBN crew (whose origins are discussed in the quote above) started to gain widespread attention when YBN Nahmir‘s addictive “Rubbin’ Off the Paint” took off, and in the time since then, Nahmir proved he has plenty more where that came from, and another members of the group began to emerge as forces of their own, like YBN Cordae (who was recently spotted in the studio with Dr. Dre) and YBN Almighty Jay. That core trio teamed for the first ever YBN collective mixtape, YBN: The Mixtape, which is out today. It features Nahmir fan faves like “Rubbin’ Off the Paint” and “Bounce Out With That,” as well as Cordae’s standout “Kung Fu,” Almighty Jay’s standout “Chopsticks,” and 19 other songs. Guests include Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa, Cuban Doll, Asian Doll, Lil Skies, Machine Gun Kelly, and more, but the real stars are the YBN members, who deliver again and again on this thing. It’s long, but it never drags, and it’s even more proof that the YBN guys are here to stay. Listen, watch a few recent videos, and see the full tracklist below.

Nahmir is currently on G-Eazy’s ‘Endless Summer’ tour, which wraps up this weekend. Cordae is playing J Cole’s Dreamville Festival next weekend.
