Yo La Tengo wrap up Hanukkah w/ Sun Ra Arkestra, Jon Glaser, Ira’s mom & more
Yo La Tengo wrapped up their first Hanukkah concert series in five years on Tuesday night (12/19) at Bowery Ballroom. For the final night, they invited Sun Ra Arkestra (with whom they collaborated earlier this year) as openers and to join them for the second half of their set which concluded with a cover of Sun Ra's "Nuclear War." The encore finished with Ira bringing out his mother, Marilyn Kaplan, to sing lead on their cover of "My Little Corner of the World" which was a hit for Anita Bryant in 1960 and which YLT covered on I Can Heart the Heart Beating as One. Setlist from Hanukkah Night 8, plus instagram pics and videos, are below.
The night's comedic guest was Jon Glaser, who was making his second Hanukkah appearance of the week, tonight as Beer Joe. The Night 8 mix CD was made by Derrick Carter and proceeds from the evening benefited Doctors Without Borders.
Also below: a second set of pictures from Hanukkah Night 5 with Superchunk and Aparna Nancherla, and show-by-show rundowns of all the guests at all the shows.
Sun Ra Arkestra will also play Winter Jazzfest in January.
