Young M.A. showed off her rising star power at SXSW (pics, review)

Young M.A. became the hottest new rapper in New York last summer thanks to her unstoppable song “OOOUUU.” You couldn’t leave your house without hearing it, and it still hasn’t gotten old. It’s taken off in other cities too, as Young M.A. proved when she played to a packed house at one of Pandora’s SXSW shows in Austin on Thursday (3/16). She was one of the artists we were excited to see, and she lived up to expectations.

She not surprisingly saved “OOOUUU” for last, and it went over just as well as you’d hope, but all the songs and a cappella/freestyles she did before that had the crowd screaming too. As did her New York pride, which she repped vocally and with her Yankees cap. She’s gearing up to release her debut EP HerStory ahead of her debut album HerStory In The Making, and presumably some of the stuff she played in Austin will end up on these releases. The EP is set to include “Hot Sauce,” which she dropped a video for the week of SXSW. Check out pictures of Young M.A.’s SXSW shows at Pandora and FADER Fort in the gallery above.

After Young M.A.’s set at the Pandora show, Future Islands played. Pictures of their set are HERE.

Young M.A. is set to tour with 21 Savage starting later this month, including two shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza (tickets). After that, she plays the Soulfrito Urban Latin Music Fest at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on June 9 with Meek Mill, Fetty Wap, and more (tickets). All dates are listed below.
