Zola Jesus shares "Siphon" from new LP, hosting "immersive audiovisual" listening party

Zola Jesus has shared “Siphon,” the new single from her forthcoming album Okovi which is out September 8 via Sacred Bones. As she explains, this very personal song was not only almost not a single, but almost not on the album:

Initially, I was apprehensive about releasing ‘Siphon’ into the world. This song was not intended for public consumption. It was written for someone very close to me who had attempted suicide for the second time. In the weeks surrounding this tragedy, I desperately tried everything I could to convince them to stay alive. There is no greater horror than watching someone you love physically destroy themselves… not knowing if you would see them tomorrow. In the end, I decided this song needed to be heard, not only by this person, but by others as well.

You can stream “Siphon” below.

Fans in NYC can hear Zola Jesus’ new album in a special “immersive audiovisual experience” called “Okovi / Surround” which happens September 13 at 393 Broadway. It’s presented by Sonos and is at 8 PM, no RSVP required. Flyer for that event is below.

Zola’s fall tour kicks off at Basilica Hudson on September 16, and then hits Brooklyn on October 4 at Rough Trade with John Wiese (tickets). Updated tour dates are listed below
